How it

All Began

1947

In April, 1947, Andy Taffeiren and his wife Lillian, (Lil), purchased approximately two acres on this corner from Earl and Helen Lewis. At that time it was known as Andy’s Place on the corner of the Plank Road and the 14th concession, Township of North Walsingham, County of Norfolk.

1950

In 1950 the store was enlarged. Andy went out of the welding business and opened up a small lunch counter. Lil worked in the insurance office in Langton. Andy loved visiting with people and this corner was a great meeting place.

1957

The original house was moved in 1957, to the lot farthest to the east, facing the 14th concession, with new living quarters being built. In the year 1960, the time for changes came and Andy changed to a drive-in restaurant, serving hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries, drinks, etc. It was a thriving business in the summer time, allowing for winter vacation, leaving no room for the gas pumps. After celebrating 20 years in business, Andy and Lil sold the business in 1967 to Jack Hefkey.

1993

That is the year the corner was “officially” named Andy’s Corners and was put on the map that way. Although no longer the owners of the diner at the time, but their name and the legacy they started brought distinction to that corner, still known as Andy’s Corners today.

2010

Although there had been many owners of Andy’s Drive In over the years, in 2010, Michele & Dale Docker took the restaurant under their wing, and purchased the diner. In their more than 10 years of ownership, Michele & Dale expanded their facility with an eat-in area, wheelchair accessible entrance an ice cream parlour, and added a food truck to the business called “Andy’s On Wheels.”

2021

Andy’s Drive-In and Andy’s on Wheels is now under new management, owned & operated by Brian and Heather Pynaert, after their purchase of the diner in May 2021. They continue to serve customers the always popular old-fashioned flavours that Andy Taffeiren himself introduced at this nostalgic location at Andy’s Corner.

2022

The original owner of Andy’s Drive In, Lil Taffeiren, hit quite the milestone, turning the age of 100 on March 16, 2022. She celebrated the day with some of her friends, sharing Andy’s milkshakes. She’s always quick to remember the good old days and is more than willing to share many stories about the early years of Andy’s Drive In.
